My Vision

Posted by: James (Terry) Spurgeon

This is my vision. That doesn't necessarily mean anything important, I just wanted to share what I had in mind with the blog when setting it up. Keep in mind that this is not my blog, it is our blog. Any of you who want to tinker in any way with it to improve it or whatever, feel free.

My idea was to create a place where the Hasstedt clan can interact, share what's going on in our lives, celebrate who we are, what makes us tick, our diversity, our talents, gifts, achievements, whatever. This is our place.

If you already have personal sites or blogs on the www, feel free to link them. For instance, John has a site with some historical and genealogical info. That will be linked soon in the column on the left. (Hint, hint)

What I envision are travel journals, family photos, postings on special events that are happening in our lives, updates on building and moving projects, anything and everything that would be of interest to the family in helping us to keep up with each other.

Humor is especially welcome. Showcase your talents if you wish, or your children's talents. BTW - you can do that modestly by just participating. (Hey, sometimes you can't help but shine, even if you're not trying) (smile).

Keep in mind that anybody and everybody on planet earth who has internet access and can read English can read what we post here.

Try to stay away from political and religious commentary, at least here. If that's your thing, and you're good at it, and you do it in other places, then don't be bashful about linking, however. And please don't be shy about mentioning your religious or political activities. (After all, that is who we are.) We can disagree with each other and still like each other and love each other and be appreciative of each other's talents and accomplishments.

If you have technical questions or don't know how to do certain things then feel free to ask. You can ask me, you can ask John, you can ask Bob, you can ask anyone you think might know. I'm not promising you that we'll have answers or even have a clue, but we'll try to help.

I promise this is my one and only sermon. It's our blog, let's make it great.

BTW - it's called "Hasstedt Happenings" because the core group involved are the six children of Cecil and Doris Hasstedt and their offspring. So be sure to send participation invitations to your children too or anyone else, for that matter, that you might think of who would be somehow related to us and want to participate.

Family Reunion - Memorial Day Weekend 2006

Family Reunion 2006 kicked off about noon on Friday with the arrival of Philip Laci from Fort Polk in Louisiana. later that evening Lucille and Dwight arrived in a rented mini-van with John and Terry - John at the wheel. They had flown into DFW airport and made the two hour trek east to Mineola, Texas. Jim and Cathy played hosts to the reunion with yours truly assisting. The next morning Bob and Ranea arrived with Brian and Cayla tagging along.

Friday night we ate fresh-caught catfish cooked in cornmeal southern style and stayed up pretty late talking and then watching a movie.

Saturday morning after Bob and Ranea arrived we took a picnic lunch to the Mineola nature preserve and took a five mile walk through the park taking turns carrying my smaller children. Pictures of that are pending.

After returning, some took turns shooting pool in my dad's pool room while others watched a movie in the family room and still others stood around talking here and there. Later there were hamburgers grilled on the carport and an interesting incident at the picnic table which I shall not now relate. When we get the photos ready, the full story will be made available.

That's all for now. Look for further updates.
